A public discussion on our memories of the Ghanaian Independence organised by the Centre for African Studies of the University of Basel. Two invited guests share their recollections of the moment of independence and open a discussion on how the Ghanaian independence changed our world view.

Ghana's foremost exponent of acoustic guitar highlife, Daniel Amponsah a.k.a. Koo Nimo has been entertaining Ghanaian and international audiences with his palm wine music for more than 50 years . His rich sound is a pulsating mix of melodious and intoxicating guitar patterns, harmonious vocals, and mesmerizing percussion. His lyrics, presented with a charming deep voice, are infused with Asante wisdom and peppered with proverbs.
He has been an inspiration to younger generations of Ghanaian musicians through the force of his personality and creative musicality. Koo Nimo has received the Grand Medal for Lifetime Service to Ghana from the head of state and was recently conferred the distinguished title of National Living Human Treasure by Ghana’s Ministry of Chieftaincy and Culture. Among the members of the Adadam Agofomma band is seperewa virtuoso Osei Kwame.
